To Pay or Not to Pay Taxes – The Debate Over Roth IRA Conversion Rages

My associate Amanda Han introduced this topic on converting to a Roth IRA but I think it’s compelling enough to examine in more detail.  This is an opportunity for many people to pay taxes on the “penny seed” instead of the “million dollar harvest.”  The debate about 401K vs IRA vs Roth IRA contributions is heated.  For the young investor it makes perfect sense to begin now and start a Roth IRA.  But what about the older investor who has more of a nest egg saved?  It’s a math question and a policy question because the components have some unknown variables– like will the tax rate go up or down in the future.  This is only available  in 2010 so the debate is high as we draw near the dead line for making that decision.  Can you believe it’s almost Thanksgiving?
